Small- to medium-sized workgroup and departmental LAN specialist, SMC Networks, has introduced a product equipped with Remote LAN Wakeup - a feature that functions after hours to reduce the cost of managing a network and increase overall productivity.
Greg Perkins, country manager of the company`s local subsidiary, says the EtherPower II 10/100 Fast Ethernet PCI network interface card (NIC) with remote LAN wakeup maximises throughput, increasing overall efficiency.
"It includes a new technology that enables LAN administrators to manage workstations remotely, performing routine backups, software updates and other client-level management functions during off hours. This reduces the total cost of operation as well as the amount of user downtime which can only increase productivity."
Based on advanced silicon, the new NIC supports auto-negotiation which makes it automatically configured to run at optimum operating mode - 10 or 100 Mbps and half or full duplex.
The product is bundled with a one-step software utility for NetWare and a Windows SuperDisk to simplify configuration in Windows 95 and NT environments.
