A new all-in-one gateway security firewall, designed to protect businesses against new-generation Web, e-mail and network threats, has been launched by Duxbury Networking.
The Netgear ProSecure Unified Threat Management (UTM) firewall combines performance with comprehensive security coverage, says Andy Robb, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking.
“The ProSecure UTM uses virus and malware threat databases from a number of sources that together are over one million signatures in size - up to 400 times more comprehensive than legacy all-in-one platforms. Analysis is performed at speeds up to five times faster than conventional methods,” he says.
“This architecture, combined with hybrid 'in-the-cloud' Web filtering and anti-spam technologies - along with proven firewall, intrusion prevention systems and virtual private network functionality - forms one of the strongest, scalable business gateway security solutions available.”
Robb adds that threats associated with malware, commonly found on Web pages, phishing attacks, spam, virus-infected emails, hack attacks and denial-of-service attacks, are now all part of a regular repertoire of sophisticated blended attacks that often bypass traditional non-UTM firewalls.
“Because comprehensive network security solutions require an abundance of processing power to examine network traffic in real-time, so-called 'all-in-one' security solutions often use rudimentary security technologies that trade comprehensiveness for speed. True security must satisfy requirements in terms of both speed and coverage,” he stresses.
“The new Netgear ProSecure UTM firewall analyses data streams as they enter the network. This significantly reduces latency and allows the use of an extensive malware signature library for scanning - thus offering an unprecedented combination of speed and coverage in an all-in-one solution,” adds Robb.
