E-security distributor AfricaSD today announced the iQNetScan, which is new to the South African IT market. IQNetScan is part of a suite of products that iQuate has developed along with deployment software (IQDeploy), file management software (IQFileScan) and help-desk software (IQHelpDesk).
Although new to most South African organisations, iQNetScan is not a new product worldwide, with customers such as Ferrero, US Navy, Kelloggs, ACCPAC, Sage Software, US Department of Agriculture, Knoxville Utilities Board, First National Bank in Texas, Allied Irish Bank and Cincom Software, to mention a few.
iQNetScan is an inventory and asset management tool, used to automatically and remotely audit computer networks, providing managers with a complete inventory of everything on their network.
Organisations are legally required to ensure the software on their network is properly licensed. iQNetScan automatically audits an organisation`s network daily, ensuring it is always aware of licensing requirements. This ensures the company is properly licensed and protects it against over-licensing and incurring greater, unnecessary costs. This information can also be used to ensure that unwanted software (for instance hacking tools and games) does not creep onto the network. It also ensures that all PCs have "required" software installed (for instance anti-virus software).
iQNetScan gathers software and hardware information without the requirement for the installation of a client software, agent or script on the machines being audited. iQNetScan scans client PCs over LANs, WANs, VPNs and works well with remote users. It runs on a single PC, gathering detailed information from all of the PCs on the network. This information can be presented in a series of pre-built reports, which can be easily customised to suit the user`s own specific requirements.
iQNetScan allows auditing of software licences and hardware inventory, monitors changes and enforces software standards. What is impressive is that it can perform a company-wide network audit of all networked PCs in minutes.
"The information that iQNetScan gathers includes computer name, computer manufacturer, CPU speed, RAM, disk space (total and % free), shares offered, drives mapped, OS version, service pack, patches and hotfixes applied and applications installed," says AfricaSD Technical Specialist Paul Beyleveld.
"What makes iQNetScan so special is that it is low resource-intensive, scans quickly, can reduce costs and keeps the IT department in control of their network," says Beyleveld.
