New Ulead software manages enterprise imaging services

Johannesburg, 07 Jun 2002

A cost-effective and quickly deployable suite of enterprise imaging software that enables companies and organisations to implement online imaging services independently of third party suppliers, is now available through leading local IT solutions distributor, the JSE-listed Square One Solutions Group Limited.

The two new imaging software solutions, iMira Album and iMira Editing, were developed by an international specialist in image editing, video editing and web graphics software, Ulead Systems Inc.

iMira Album is a server-based online photo sharing application, while iMira Editing is a server-based online image editing and conversion application. Both applications help to build customer loyalty and employee efficiency by providing online imaging services.

Lisa Jackson, Square One's divisional manager responsible for Ulead products, said that traditionally companies have been forced to build prohibitive and complex imaging systems or pay ongoing fees for such a service to an ASP (application service provider).

"Now iMira Album and iMira Editing give organisations a cost-effective, yet powerful alternative that can work alone or in conjunction with the company's existing imaging system. Ownership of the software gives the user company a distinct advantage in having direct control over system data, storage and processing fees."

Jackson added that images are transforming traditional business practices in fields such as photographic processing, auctioneering, medical imaging, retailing, real estate, travel and telecommunications.

"Businesses operating in these areas are adopting photographic sharing, editing and conversion processes to streamline their operations. There are a number of international companies, including Agfa and Ericsson, who are using Ulead's iMira Server technology to improve their service offerings and increase customer loyalty."

The software products allow such companies to expand their services and in the case of Agfa, iMira Album offers customers sharing and editing services through a photo printing Web site and in the case of Ericsson, iMira Editing provides an integral component for desktop computer users to share pictures via Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS) to phone users.

Ericsson integrated iMira Editing with its system to convert and optimise images for display on mobile phone screens. Online customers can now edit and repair images before sending them to MMS-enabled phones. iMira Album equally enabled Ericsson to quickly build its own photo-sharing community.

The iMira Album 1.0 software program delivers a robust photo-sharing environment complete with album templates, album search mechanisms and email address management. It integrates easily with a company's existing web site and includes powerful backend administration tools that allow administrators to manage and track photo-sharing activity quickly and easily. Minimum system requirements include Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 SP4 or Windows 2000 and MS SQL Server 7.0.

The iMira Editing 1.2 program gives companies the ability to automate image manipulation for a variety of end-uses and integration with existing systems using an HTTP API protocol. Whether for print, web, PDAs, or next generation wireless devices including MMS, iMira Editing delivers an integral component in processing visual media without the need to migrate to a new platform. iMira Editing's browser-based image editing capabilities include red-eye removal, brightness and contrast, hue and saturation, cropping and resizing. It runs on Linux operating systems.
