Billions of IT investment dollars continue to be wasted each year due to poor alignment, oversight and control of information technology (IT). The IT Governance Institute (ITGI) has addressed this international problem with the new Val IT series Enterprise Value: Governance of IT Investments, a complimentary download at www.itgi.org. Val IT provides generally accepted guidelines and best practices to help boards of directors and executives attain maximum return on investment (ROI) for IT.
Val IT recommends that IT projects be managed as a portfolio of investments, achieve business value and be supervised through their economic lifecycle.
Based on Control Objectives for Information and related Technology (COBIT ), the internationally accepted framework for IT governance, Val IT is complements COBIT from a business and financial perspective-COBIT sets best practices for the means of creating value, Val IT adds best practices for the end.
"Effective IT governance starts with leadership at the top. While this is critical, it is simply not enough in today`s globally competitive marketplace," said Everett Johnson, CPA, international president of ITGI. "Val IT provides guidance on the IT investment decision-making process and how to increase the value of IT investments."
An IT framework, a business case and a real-life case study from financial giant ING are included in Val IT. By sharing years of experience with enterprise value management, ING, originally through its IT performance measurement and investment management team, and since 2005 as SeaQuation, a wholly independent company, has done substantial research into IT and enterprise value.
"Val IT provides well-researched guidance that helps organizations select investments with the potential to generate the highest returns," said Paul Williams, FCA, CITP, former international president of ITGI and strategy advisor for SeaQuation.
Complimentary downloads of Val IT are at www.itgi.org, and print copies can be purchased from ISACA Bookstore (www.isaca.org/bookstore).
The nonprofit, independent IT Governance Institute(r) (www.itgi.org) was established in 1998 to advance international thinking and standards in directing and controlling an enterprise`s IT.
