New version of Sophos PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange

Simplified management and increased flexibility provide more control.
Johannesburg, 20 Sep 2007

IT security and control firm, Sophos, has announced PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange 3.0, to protect the e-mail servers of organisations running Microsoft operating systems against e-mail-borne threats, including spam, phishing, viruses and spyware.

The new release, which provides support for Microsoft Exchange 2007 and 64 bit Windows Server 2003, significantly enhances the ability to define and enforce e-mail content policies across multiple servers, says Sophos.

Fully integrated and synchronised with Active Directory, PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange 3.0 enables businesses to easily define e-mail content policies and exceptions for pre-existing groups and/or individual users.

"This not only saves administrators' valuable time, it also allows them to more easily monitor and control the types of e-mails and attachments sent by employees from different departments, both within and out of the company," says Brett Myroff, CEO of master Sophos distributor, NetXactics.

"The ability to apply different policies and configuration options to inbound, outbound and internal e-mail, offers organisations greater control over the flow of information," he says. For example, these configuration options could be used to quarantine outbound messages that might contain business-sensitive data.

For businesses using PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange 3.0 on multiple servers, administrators can monitor, configure and enforce policies across all servers from a single console. In addition, PureMessage 3.0 supports all the main clustering models for Microsoft Exchange, critical for providing failover for business critical applications.

Complementing this, the new security dashboard provides an overview of the status of each server, giving system administrators a simple way to quickly monitor and manage all the servers, as well as e-mail throughput and quarantine databases status. Furthermore, reports and graphical charts of the dashboard data can be quickly generated to highlight trends and to identify any issues.

"E-mail is not just a vector for cyber criminals looking to infect corporate networks with malware. Inappropriate use of business e-mail can drain network resources, impact staff productivity or result in data leakage," Myroff says.

"Sophos PureMessage gives system administrators the necessary control of their e-mail systems to protect against all these eventualities."
