SPI, the African distributor for utility software products and services to the open systems segment of the IT industry, today announced a new Web service for Applecross Technologies' Privileged User Manager (PUM) V2.3.
PUM provides users with the first, commercial-strength privileged account (super user) monitoring, management and auditing package for Unix and Linux-based systems that is available at no greater a cost than a supported version of an open source alternative.
PUM allows end-user organisations to centrally manage, monitor and audit the use of super user accounts, providing an indelible audit trail of all activity. The new PUMService provides PUM users with a number of Web service methods that provision the maintenance of PUM objects.
The Web methods available are those most likely to require external connectivity to common or shared data stored within the PUM database, such as user information and managed hosts. PUMService is a SOAP-based Web service and is described in accordance with the Web Services Definition Language (WSDL).
PUMService also provides organisations with the option of extracting audit trail information from the encrypted data held on a PUM Audit Server.
"PUM has been taken up by very large end-user organisations that need to support thousands of managed servers and hundreds of privileged users,” commented Neil Chaney, CEO of Applecross Technologies. “The new PUMService gives those organisations a way of populating the PUM database in bulk on day one, and maintaining that information from an external data source over time.
“In particular, we had a requirement from various end-users to allow bulk update of the PUM database from various human resources packages,” continued Chaney. The new PUMService provides an interface to which that data can be presented.
“PUM V2.3 was architected for large users of Unix and Linux servers and PUMService makes it even easier for those organisations to implement and maintain PUM,” concluded Chaney.
The software is sold and supported worldwide by Applecross Technologies, its strategic partner, Open Systems Management (“OSM”) in Europe and the Americas; and authorised resellers.
The software is offered on an annual subscription licence basis only, and the annual fee includes the licence, support and all upgrades.
