Johannesburg, 15 Dec 1999

Microsoft has recently been alerted to an issue within the Microsoft Access 2.0 Two-Digit Date Update. In isolated cases, database corruption may be caused through the software update. Since learning of this issue, Microsoft has removed the update from the Microsoft Year 2000 Product Guide, and has begun proactively notifying Microsoft Access 2.0 customers.

In addition it has made a new Microsoft Access 2.0 Two-Digit Date Update available at http://www.microsoft.com/y2k, the Product Guide Search Page is located at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/year2k/product/product.asp.

Microsoft customers that use the existing programme, are advised to download the latest Microsoft Access 2.0 Two-Digit update, which will be available on the Web site (www.microsoft.com/y2k http://www.microsoft.com/y2k). This includes Microsoft customers who previously downloaded the Microsoft Access 2.0 Two-Digit Date update from the Web site prior to 5 December 1999, or from the Year 2000 Resource CD http://www.microsoft.com/technet/year2k/y2kcd.htm. Microsoft customers that use Microsoft Access 2.0 should not install the Microsoft Access 2.0 Two-Digit Date update that is available as part of the Year 2000 Resource CD.

"As with any update, it is highly recommended that users create a backup copy of their files before installing the update," says Shane van Jaarsveldt, technical director at Microsoft South Africa. "Microsoft Access 2.0, which was released in 1994, is the only Microsoft product with this issue. With the new Microsoft Access 2.0 Two-Digit Date Update, Microsoft Access 2.0 will maintain its Year 2000 ."
