Next-generation knowledge portal

Lotus Development has confirmed the availability of K-station, a knowledge portal designed to provide end users a single point of access to critical information.

"Lotus K-station brings new levels of collaboration and functionality to end users with its combination of advanced Lotus portal technologies, tools and services with core collaborative tools like Sametime and QuickPlace," says Lesego Tlhabanelo, marketing communications manager at Lotus Development SA.

Lotus K-station is the first product to be delivered from the Lotus project code-named Raven. Although Lotus K-station can stand alone as a knowledge management solution, it will be integrated with other services and offerings, including the Lotus Discovery Server, once it becomes available.

While traditional portal technology merely allows users to access different systems through a portal interface, Lotus K-station collects documents and stores pieces of the decision-making process to be reused in the future. "Users can clearly understand how and why decisions were made and the steps involved in the decision-making process. Lotus K-station provides customers with a secure, online venue for organisation and collaboration, regardless of their existing products and infrastructures," he says.

In addition, Lotus K-station embraces other application platforms, such as MS Exchange, to allow customers to use existing investments, and still be able to take advantage of knowledge management solutions. K-station is available via a Web download at www.lotus.com/downloads.
