Nigerian wins top tech award

The annual award recognises those who are making a difference through their contribution either directly or indirectly in increasing African content in ICT products and services in the emerging market.
OMG Ghana writes that Okere is a renowned innovator in ICT and an ardent entrepreneurial crusader. He has received a number of accolades, including an invitation to teach at the Columbia Business School in 2010 and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2011 and 2012 where he encouraged the investors, industrialists, academics and students with the success story of CWG.
His achievement has been replicated in various entrepreneurship development centres and business schools in Nigeria, the US, Tanzania and Kenya, among other countries.
CWG has grown over the years from just a computer hardware supply company to an integrated ICT group consisting of three companies - Computer Warehouse, providing hardware and infrastructure solutions; DCC Networks Systems, providing communications and networking solutions; and ExpertEdge Software, providing systems applications and deployment, Business and Financial Times reports.
From an initial turnover of N1.3 million, it now has a turnover of about N16 billion and staff strength of about 550.
Okere is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors of Nigeria and has served in many other professional bodies, including Frontier 100 (Initiative for Global Development), Nigeria-South Africa Chamber, Nigeria Economic Summit Group, and Nigerian Computer Society.
