NIL, Vodacom named Cisco Cloud Partners of the Year for Emerging Markets and for SA

Johannesburg, 04 Jun 2012

NIL and Vodacom are proud to announce that they have received Cisco's “Cloud Partner of the Year” award for Emerging Markets and for South Africa. The winners were unveiled at the recent annual Cisco Partner Summit, in San Diego.

This recognition is the result of NIL and Vodacom's partnership success with NIL's innovative and comprehensive IT as a service solution, Office in the Cloud. This complete managed office solution enables customers to rent everything they need for a fully functional office, resulting in lower costs and fewer problems, and freeing time to spend on their core business. Office in the Cloud is based on NIL's Global Flip IT solution.

“'Cloud Partner of the Year' is the second award we have received from Cisco this year for our cloud solution. The first award recognised our innovative technical approach, and this one proves that our solution is not just technically superior - it's among the most appealing in the global market for service providers that offer it and end-users who use it,” said Martin Camp, Director, NIL Africa.

"Office in the Cloud is unique, and currently the technically most advanced cloud solution in the African market. It allows SMEs to use technologies previously only available to larger enterprises, and it's fully scalable to enable business growth. Being recognised as a Cisco 'Cloud Partner of the Year' confirms this claim and increases the solution's market appeal," added Brett Orwin, Head of Managed Services for NIL Africa.

Vodacom and NIL teamed up in 2011 to fill a gap in the marketplace by offering a complete managed-office solution in the South African market and in broader regions. This collaboration was not overlooked, as Cisco awarded Office in the Cloud the title: “Most Innovative Data Centre, Cloud and Virtualisation Project of the Year” at Cisco Live! in London in early 2012.

In the last few years, NIL has put a lot of resources into evolving the cloud computing business. As part of this strategy, we developed two cloud offerings: NIL HyperCenter (a private cloud solution) and Flip IT (a public cloud, IT as a service solution).

“We saw that big changes were coming in the IT industry. So we decided to expand our portfolio and transform the company from a system integrator into a managed services provider,” commented Klemen Stular, General Manager, NIL.

The result of this strategic direction was that NIL was among the first companies in the world with a market-ready cloud solution, and first in Europe, Africa and Asia to earn the Cisco Cloud Builder certificate.
