No more car door scratches

The Door Edge Protector, set to debut on the 2012 Ford Focus, is a mechanically extended flap that provides a buffer on the edge of the door to stop damaging contact with other objects or vehicles.

According to The Independent, Ford says the flap, which automatically activates when the door is opened, is made out of hard-wearing rubber, and appears and retracts within a fraction of a second.

This allows it to absorb the shock, should the edge of the vehicle's door hit another object, defending against over 90% of obstructions to the front doors and 85% to the rear doors.

New Car Net reports that the cost to repair a dented car door can easily reach £250, and 85% of British drivers do not believe the perpetrators of the damage would confess to the incident.

Ford's own research found that 57% of drivers in the Midlands have experienced door damage in car park incidents.
