There will not be any retrenchments as a result of restructuring part of Vodacom's local operations, says SA's largest cellular operator.
Business Day this morning reported that reorganisation within Vodacom could result in job cutting.
Citing company sources, the newspaper said Vodacom would “unveil a new management and operational structure next month”, which may lead to job losses as the company consolidates some functions.
According to the daily newspaper, “most functions of Vodacom SA would be absorbed by the Vodacom Group”.
However, Vodacom executive head of corporate communications Richard Boorman says the restructuring, which was communicated to staff last week, will not result in any retrenchments. He explains that there has already been some senior level restructuring.
Boorman says, for example, chief commercial officer Romeo Kumalo will no longer report into Vodacom SA, but will now report straight to Vodacom group CEO Pieter Uys, as his role has been enlarged.
In the meantime, says Boorman, Vodacom is still busy looking for a replacement for Vodacom SA MD Shameel Joosub, who will take over the reins at Vodafone Spain at the beginning of next month.
