Vodacom announced at the end of last year that Joosub would move to Vodafone to take up the post as CEO of Vodafone Spain, one of Vodafone's largest operating companies. He will leave Vodacom at the end of March.

Vodafone is Vodacom's single largest shareholder, a position it attained after the local cellular company was unbundled by Telkom in mid-2009 and listed on the JSE. Vodafone owns 65% of Vodacom, SA's largest cellular operator.

Vodacom chairman Peter Moyo says: “The process of identifying his replacement is under way.” However, adds Moyo, “it's difficult to predict how long the process will take and this isn't the type of issue that we can provide updates on”.

Moyo says the company will make an announcement as soon as possible, and in the meantime, concentrate on its plans to ensure a smooth transition.

Joosub's “promotion to the position of CEO of Vodafone Spain demonstrates just one of the benefits and opportunities that come from being part of the Vodafone Group”, says Moyo.

Analysts yesterday indicated that Vodacom could appoint a new head for Vodacom SA from within Vodafone's ranks.
