No word on new Telkom CEO

Johannesburg, 21 Jun 2010

Fixed-line operator Telkom did not provide any clarity as to who may lead it during its next stage of evolution.

Responding to questions at the end of the company's results presentation for the year to March, CFO Peter Nelson said the issue of who would head up Telkom was an “internal process”.

He added that Reuben September's announcement that he would leave the company in November was a “recent development”. Telkom and September told the market that he was resigning on 4 June.

Nelson said Telkom's board has mechanisms to deal with September's succession, but declined to elaborate. “As soon as the board is in a position to do so, it will make a statement... I don't think the board wants to be pushed into making a statement before it is ready.”

Rumours are rife that Telkom SA MD Nombulelo “Pinky” Moholi is tipped to take over from September.

September has been at the company for 33 years and ended his presentation this afternoon by saying: “I'm very proud to have been a part of the Telkom family.”
