Nokia gets the Qualcomm touch
Nokia plans to work with Qualcomm and Skype to dramatically expand the capabilities of the handset maker's next-generation smartphones, states Top Tech News.
The deal with Qualcomm is a sharp reversal of the two companies' heated back-and-forth exchanges about cellphone royalty fees over the past three years.
Nokia executive VP Kai Oistamo says the handset maker is pleased to be in discussions with Qualcomm about designing mobile devices that can benefit from the high level of integration found on mobile station modem chipsets.
Acme Packet enhances IP system
Acme Packet says it is enabling “new interactive communication and entertainment services” for mobile broadband networks with new video control capability, reports Network World.
To this end, Acme Packet has introduced streaming video control with a new real-time streaming protocol proxy capability. The company has also joined the GSM Association's rich communications suite (RCS) initiative to “help define and promote IP multimedia subsystem-based interactive communication services over 3G radio access networks”.
The wireless network provider says video control capability and RCS initiative can each enable new revenue possibilities for service providers including IPTV and SIP-based interactive communications for mobile devices and laptops connected to 3G, LTE and fixed and mobile WiMax.
Iskratel, Genband Gateway team-up
Iskratel and Genband have revealed the interoperability of the SI3000 Call Server and the G9 converged gateway, reports MarketWatch.
Incorporating the Genband G9 Gateway into the solution and network equipment provider's portfolio enables Iskratel to achieve a stronger position in the field of high-capacity metropolitan networks. The G9 platform also allows the SI3000 CS soft-switch to interoperate with mobile networks.
The SI3000 CS is well known for its wide portfolio of supported networking protocols which also covers Russian specifics. Due to Iskratel's strong presence in eastern and central European markets, the combination of the SI3000 CS and the G9 gateway strengthens both companies' portfolios for the European urban networking segment.
