New Delhi's largest telecom operator Bharti Airtel awarded a $700 million 2G capacity expansion project to Nokia Siemens Network (NSN) to increase its network capacity by 50% in eight of its circles, says Financial Express.
NSN will deploy efficient network solutions, including flexi multi-radio base stations, packet core platforms, and microwave solutions for new and legacy networks to boost performance at a lower total cost of ownership and reduced carbon footprint.
The company says: “The project will improve network capacity and spectral efficiency by employing a full range of services comprising network planning, implementation and optimisation.
Mobile tech for SME builders
BuildIT, a scheduling technology company for the SME builder market, has invested in an application for a new mobile development phase, states Constructech.
With the mobile capabilities of the software, builders will be able to access information from the BuildIT system with their mobile devices.
More and more, builders are finding they need to control the project with a good solid scheduling system, and in most cases this means having the ability to access this system in the field. This is part of the reason why software providers and carriers are partnering up to provide solutions for builders.
Electricity reforms blamed for stalled IT projects
Trustpower has blamed former New Zealand energy minister Max Bradford's electricity industry reforms for delays to IT projects in the sector, saying complexities introduced into the electricity market in 1999 had come home to roost, reports Stuff.
That claim was rejected by Bradford, who accused the electricity retailer of whingeing and using his reforms as a scapegoat for its systems problems.
TrustPower announced to the stock exchange this month that it had suspended work on an $18 million project to replace its billing and customer management systems with Oracle software and would probably have to write off a portion of the $9.5 million it had spent on the system to date.
