Nokia Siemens services one billion
Nokia Siemens Networks has expanded its capacity worldwide past the one billion subscriber milestone, states ABS-CBN News.
This achievement means Nokia Siemens Networks' solution is used for 40% of mobile soft switching worldwide and for over a quarter of all connections in those mobile networks based on the world-dominant GSM family of standards.
Deployed in over 230 operators' networks, Nokia Siemens Networks' mobile soft-switching technology enables voice service for 2G, 3G and VOIP all in the same hardware elements, due to its integrated VOIP server.
NextGenTel acquires VOIP business
NextGenTel, a TeliaSonera subsidiary and the second largest Norwegian broadband supplier, has acquired the broadband and VOIP business of Tele2 Norway, reports TMCnet.
The business is expected to strengthen NextGenTel's position in the Norwegian market, which comprises 97 000 broadband subscriptions, of which 23 000 are VOIP subscriptions.
Hakan Dahlstr"om, president of broadband services at TeliaSonera, says: “The broadband and VOIP business of Tele2 Norway is an attractive asset that will strengthen our position in the Norwegian market. The increased customer base will also result in improved capacity utilisation of the network.”
Android eyes VOIP
Android telephone handsets are set to benefit from cheaper international calls with the availability of VOIP solution released by Vopium, says Telappliant.
The application provides users with access to savings of as much as 90% off the cost of a call and the company is looking to expand the availability of the product throughout the global telecommunications market.
Already available from Blackberry App World and the iPhone App Store, users can visit the Web site and download the application free of charge, at which point it integrates with the address book on the user's handset.
