Nology accelerates, enhances office communications with Billion 7402NX ADSL firewall router with VPN, redundancy capabilities

Johannesburg, 06 Mar 2009

Nology, a South African distributing agent of broadband and networking products, is now enabling SoHos and office users to gain the most from their networking, which includes connectivity reliability, with the release of the Billion 7402NX, a dual-WAN 3G/ADSL (VPN) firewall router.

The Billion 7402NX features a wireless access point that incorporates the latest 802.11n wireless draft standard as well as a four-port Gigabit switch.

802.11n delivers up to six times the speed and three times the wireless coverage of an 802.11b/g network device. It supports a data rate of up to 300Mbps and is also backwards compatible with 802.11b/g equipment.

The four-port Gigabit switch enables fast LAN transmission for bandwidth-hungry applications such as video streaming and file sharing.

Importantly, the 7402NX firewall router includes a USB port for plugging in a 3G/HSDPA modem which works as a backup WAN, therefore, functioning as an automatic fail-over when an ADSL connection breaks down and smoothly connecting to a 3G connection with minimum disruption. This will ensure always-on, uninterrupted Internet connectivity. The device establishes online connectivity using either an ADSL or 3G network.

Furthermore, with the integrated VPN (virtual private network) functionality, users can establish multiple VPN tunnels to securely transmit and share data over the Internet, without any additional client software, allowing office users to harness the benefits that come with VPN, which includes secure and cost-effective remote communications. This enables users to access their corporate intranet and transmit sensitive data between branch offices and remote sites anytime; even when on the road, thus enhancing mobility and productivity.

"The 7402NX is a router aimed at SoHos and office users but with high-end specifications. It features some of the latest advances in connectivity such as 802.11n and VPN capabilities that truly enable local users to establish networks that are reliable, safe and importantly fast," comments Pierre Holtzhausen, channel manager at Nology.

The 7402NX firewall router features three antennas which effectively search for wireless signals and automatically adjust to the optimal connection after obstacles have been detected, mitigating dead zones. Therefore, users can create their own mobile hotspot for WiFi access wherever a 3G connection is available.

Key Billion 7402NX firewall router features include:

* Dual WAN interfaces for ADSL2+ and 3G connections
* High speed Internet access with ADSL2/2+; backward compatible with ADSL
* Supports WiFi Protected Setup and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK
* High-speed wireless connection up to a 300Mbps data rate
* Expanded wireless coverage of up to three times the range of 802.11g products
* Auto fail-over feature to ensure an always-on connection
* USB 2.0 port for plugging a 3G/HSDPA modem as backup
* Four-port Gigabit switch
* VPN (IPsec, PPTP, L2TP)
