Nordic countries green up Nigeria

Sweden and Finland are exploring opportunities for green businesses in Nigeria, as part of efforts to step up their trade and investment promotion activities in the country, reports Next.com.

This involves bringing in technologies that will help manage Nigeria's environment to gain commercial value. Topping their focus is using IT and renewable energy technologies to address climate change.

Representatives of the two Nordic countries claim the new technology they plan to bring in will generate electricity from wastes collected in the state.

MS tackles energy efficiency

Microsoft is driving its Holm Score energy application, which calculates a home's estimated energy efficiency based on its general size and location, states CNET News.

In the US, the application has already determined the worst home energy efficiency scores are in Texas and Tennessee, while the best are in Hawaii and Delaware.

Hohm GM Troy Batterberry says people can get more accurate information by entering utility information to view the actual energy usage from electronic devices.

Super computers map out oil spill

Researchers at the University of Texas are using super computers to create simulations of the Gulf oil spill to determine the effect of the environmental disaster, says Information Week.

Researchers are using an advanced circulation model, traditionally used to track hurricanes, to assess the extent of the damage caused by the spill created by petrol company BP.

A host of government agencies, including Nasa and the US Department of Homeland , have contributed technology to help in the spill's clean-up efforts, which are in their fifth week.
