Nortel has appointed Darryl Edwards as president of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.
Edwards replaces Steve Pusey, executive vice-president Nortel and president of Nortel EMEA who is leaving Nortel to join Vodafone Group Plc as its chief technology officer.
Edwards has been with Nortel for 14 years. Most recently, he was Nortel president of Northern Europe, Middle East and NETAS, Nortel`s joint venture in Turkey. In the past, he has been CEO of Nortel Israel and Nortel Networks Germany. Prior to joining Nortel, Edwards spent 13 years at GPT.
Mike Zafirovski, Nortel president and chief executive officer, said Edwards has a superb sales and management track record at Nortel. He has surpassed his targets in each of his 14 years at Nortel and is well respected by customers, peers and employees. He has tremendous experience throughout the entire EMEA region and is the right person to lead Nortel`s efforts in an area that`s vital to Nortel`s future success."
Pusey joined Nortel in 1982 and has held a variety of positions on both the enterprise and carrier sides of the business.
Pusey will be responsible for all aspects of Vodafone`s networks, IT capability and supply chain management. He will report to the chief executive of Europe and will join the group`s executive committee.
"Pusey has made a tremendous contribution to Nortel over the past 24 years, particularly in growing our business in EMEA in his last five years as president of the region," said Zafirovski. "We are grateful for his years of service and his huge impact on the business. We know this is a great opportunity for Steve and we wish him all the best."
Darryl Edwards is president of EMEA and has overall accountability for Nortel in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Edwards was appointed in August 2006.
