Nortel announced today that it has appointed Logan Pather as country manager for SA. Pather will be responsible for building Nortel`s Enterprise and Carrier business by delivering upon aggressive sales targets and maintaining service excellence.
A veteran of the African telecoms industry, Pather joins Nortel after leadership roles at various operators across Africa. He brings to Nortel a wealth of experience from both wireless and fixed-line operator environments.
He was executive for new channel development at SA`s Cell C, and MD and CEO of Telecel Zambia. While general manager at MTN Cameroon, Pather helped establish a leadership position in the market even though the operation was set up eight months after its local competitor. He also held previous roles as regional management at Vodacom, general manager at Teljoy Cellular and sales manager at Telkom SA, where he was responsible for growing market share for its enterprise solutions.
"Logan Pather will be a true asset to Nortel as it continues to build upon its success in SA," said Michel Clement, President France, Middle East and Africa, Nortel. "Logan`s deep operator experience, understanding of enterprise customers and genuine passion for this industry, means he has an unparalleled ability to drive high levels of customer service and strengthen Nortel`s position in the South African market."
"I am delighted to be joining Nortel at a time when the communications industry is undergoing such a rapid rate of change," said Pather. "As voice and data services in both enterprise and operator environments converge, and wireless broadband technology is deployed, the networks around us are going to significantly change the way we all live and work. Nortel`s expertise in these areas places us at the heart of this evolution."
Nortel South Africa works closely with its local partners - arivia.kom, AST, Business Connexion, Comztek, Dimension Data, Grintek, Kathea and Westcon - to bring converged voice and data networks to companies such as Absa, Caltex, Kumba, Old Mutual, Richard Bays, SARS, Sasol, SITA, Sun City, Shopride and Wits and Pretoria universities.
