MICOM Communications, a Nortel (Northern Telecom) company, is offering SMEs (Small & Medium Enterprises) improved network performance, enhanced security and lower network costs in the latest version of its Marathon Integration Multiplexer, now shipping.Designed for voice data integration applications in SMEs and remote sites of large multi-national companies, Marathon v5.2 now supports networks of unlimited size. This allows organisations to "future-proof" their telecommunications investment and build larger networks as required. The new version includes a Gateway DLCI (data link connection identifier) feature which improves network performance and reduces costs by saving bandwidth, and enhances security by limiting the opportunities to view traffic intended for another area of the network. The Gateway DLCI reduces congestion by avoiding propagation of network management traffic."Gateway DLCIs will enable Marathon networks to grow with the requirements of our customers," said Lesley Hansen, international marketing director at Micom. "They bring enhancements to network performance but reduce network operational costs. These are the type of benefits which continue to keep Marathon ahead of the competition."The Gateway DLCI removes any limit on the number of nodes that can be implemented in a Marathon voice network and limits traffic passing between the two networks to voice traffic.Gateway DLCIs allow groups of up to 254-node Marathon networks to be interconnected. This means that Marathon networks can be extended to accommodate enterprise growth.Marathon release V5.2 is SNMP compliant with support for HP OpenView. The Marathon SNMP Agent offers full support for Marathon, and is based on Sun Solaris. It is capable of managing up to eight sub-networks.The Marathon Multiplexer family ranges from low-cost feeders to high performance switching hubs, offering a solution for every application.Marathon v5.2 is available immediately and the upgrade is free of charge to existing Micom customers from their local distributor via the Micom Bulletin Board System. Marathon products are available immediately from the Nortel Micom distribution channel. Prices start at US$945.
