Nortel Networks clinches 3G wireless contract

Nortel Networks has been selected to assist in building another Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) by Cegetel in France.

Nortel Networks has established a series of alliances with key developers of third generation (3G) applications and appliances, reinforcing its global leadership position in accelerating availability of the new, high performance Wireless .

Nortel Networks is a supplier of UMTS networks for BT Cellnet in the United Kingdom, Airtel and Xfera in Spain, T-Mobile in Germany, and AT&T Wireless in the United States.

Nortel Networks also announced a series of alliances intended to speed delivery of new content, services and personal devices for 3G wireless subscribers. These alliances will help support Nortel Networks drive to make available a variety of open standards-based solutions to address booming subscriber demand for `anytime, anywhere` Internet content and services, and to help accelerate time-to-market and time-to-profit for 3G wireless service providers.
