Nortel Networks achieved the number one position in the global market for Multi-service switch-based gateways in 2000, according to a report published this month by Cahners In-Stat, a leading telecommunications market research and consulting firm.
The report indicates that Nortel Networks achieved nearly a 64% market share in 2000 based on voice port shipments of Nortel Networks Passport Packet Voice Gateway.
"Nortel Networks was first to add voice capabilities to its Passport switches and has been the most successful with this platform for packet voice services," said Norm Bogen, director, WAN Infrastructure and Services, Cahners In-Stat. "Nortel Networks Passport Packet Voice Gateway shipments in 2000 gave them a clear leadership position in delivering multi-service switch-based gateways in this rapidly-growing market."
