Nortel Networks and Sun Microsystems have announced that the companies will jointly market Internet Data Centre solutions designed to offer customers fast, simple deployment with the reliability and scalability for delivery of profitable Web-enabled services.
These Internet Data Centre solutions, called Rapid Start Web Solutions, are the first SunToneSM Platforms jointly created by Sun and a network equipment provider for Web infrastructure. Rapid Start Web Solutions are modular, pre-configured solutions featuring Nortel Networks Alteon Web switches, Sun Netra T1 thin servers, and software from Sun and iPlanet E-Commerce Solutions, a Sun-Netscape Alliance.

Led by Sun, the SunTone Certification and Branding Program is one of the industry`s first collaborative efforts to define and audit service provider infrastructure, operational practices, hardware, applications and overall service delivery to help ensure industry-leading levels of performance, security and availability.
Rapid Start Web Solutions include:
* Web Hosting - one Alteon 184 or ACEdirector 4 Web switch load balancing two Sun Netra T1 thin servers, with optional iPlanet Web Server software.
* Highly Available - two Alteon Web switches load balancing Sun Netra T1 thin servers and running iPlanet Web Server software. Intended for medium-sized enterprise customers.
* Secure, Highly Available - scaleable load balancing for SunScreen firewalls, Sun Netra T1 thin servers and iPlanet Web Server software. Intended to handle secure data traffic requirements of high-end business applications.
Rapid Start Web Solutions are available as SunTone Platforms as they have been designed, sized and tested to industry best practices as defined by the SunTone program. The companies are also pursuing SunTone Certification of the solutions as the next step in verifying their commitment to quality of service.
