Northern Telecom Limited (Nortel) has announced the appointment of David L.House, previously chairman of the board, chief executive officer and president of Bay Networks, to its board of directors. House is now the president of Nortel and a member of the Office of the CEO.
Before joining Bay in 1996, House spent 22 years at Intel Corporation in a number of key management, marketing and strategic planning roles.
House is a member of the Silicon Valley Manufacturing Board, the Technology Network, and the Board of Trustees of the Computer Museum. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Michigan Technological University and a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University. House was awarded an honorary doctorate in electrical engineering by Michigan Technological University in May 1998.
Nortel works with customers in more than 150 countries and territories to design, build and integrate their communications products and advanced digital networks. Customers include public and private institutions; Internet service providers; local, long-distance, cellular mobile and PCS communications companies; cable television companies, and utilities.
Nortel had 1997 revenues of US$15.5 billion and as of July 1998 had approximately 73 000 employees worldwide.
