Mobil-IT has launched a new offering which allows individuals to rent notebooks and accessories on their cellphone account.
The package offers next-day support, insurance, trade-ins and data airtime contracts, as well as training and telephonic support over a three-year period.
Jacqui Osz, founder and head of Mobil-IT, says she waited two years to bring the concept to market, but the need for mobility is now huge and she believes the product will quickly gain support.
"I noticed over the last 10 years that there was a growing trend in this country to move mobile work tools from company names to individual names," she says. "Companies replaced company cars with car and petrol allowances because of abuse and tax law changes, and the same thing was happening with cellular phones, so it was only a matter of time before notebooks went the same route."
The rental is 100% tax-deductible if the notebook is used for work purposes. Osz says the difference between a lease agreement and a pure rental such as Mobil-IT offers is that for tax purposes, renting complies with accounting code AC105, which means that monthly payments can be reclaimed in full.
Mobil-IT has signed on HP SA as a preferred supplier and Osz says customers can request any of the notebooks on the HP supply list.
"HP has for a long while been investigating introducing notebooks into the cellular market. Mobil-IT has come up with a very simple solution and marketing strategy," says Adrian Delport, HP`s business development manager.
Osz says Mobil-IT can facilitate trade-ins on customers` existing notebooks as well as negotiate airtime contracts with cellphone operators.
The company has also received backing from Altech subsidiary and cellular service provider, Supercall Cellular.
"Our target market is the corporate sector and this is an exciting opportunity to be the first cellular service provider to offer our clients such an additional service and solution," says Graham Lawson, MD of Supercall Cellular.
