Novell will in future be naming qualified software and hardware products from outside developers, including LDAP applications, as "Directory-enabled". This will mean they are compatible with the newest version of Novell Directory Services, NDS 8. As with Novell`s "Yes, Tested and Approved" logo program, "Directory-enabled" products pass rigorous compatibility tests to assure users they will operate seamlessly with NDS 8.
"Directory-enabled" products will capitalise on the soaring use of NDS in networks and the Internet. Customers will be able to easily identify Novell`s "Directory-enabled" logo, signifying compatibility between NDS and qualified products. Companies can also benefit by participating in Novell`s wide range of co-marketing opportunities available to "Yes, Tested and Approved" and "Directory-enabled" partners.
"NDS compatibility testing is exciting news for both Novell and independent software and hardware vendors," said Novell corporate business strategist Stafford Masie. "We expect that as NDS 8 takes a greater foothold in the Internet marketplace, a large number of developers will seek NDS compatibility, similar to the thousands who have done so previously with NetWare and other Novell products."
Novell`s "Yes, Tested and Approved" logo helps the company`s millions of customers around the world easily identify and purchase third-party hardware and software products that are proven to be compatible with the Novell product line. Novell`s "Directory-enabled" logo indicates specific compatibility with NDS 8.
To test products to the "Directory-enabled" standard, developers can take them to a Novell Authorized Testing Center (NATC), or they can register over the Internet at http://developer.novell.com/prodcert. And for a limited time, Novell is offering NDS compatibility testing of software applications for free.

NDS 8 provides developers with a cross-platform management and security infrastructure for intranet and Internet applications, including the advanced control of user access and identity required for customised Internet and e-commerce services.
