Novell announces new licensing model

Johannesburg, 03 Oct 2002

Novell has announced several changes to the pricing and conditions of its volume (VLA), corporate (CLA) and master licence agreements (MLA).

"Purchasing levels 2 and 3 of the VLA will be eliminated, but customers will have the opportunity to move to our CLA at level 1, with a signed contract," explains distribution manager Recia Latief. "Good news for CLA customers is that the entry level for obtaining a CLA has been reduced from $100 000 to $25 000, but customers will no longer be able to set pricing by `forecasting` the amount of product to be purchased during the contract period."

Novell has also introduced Contract Wide Upgrade Protection (CWU) to the CLA programme.

"Customers selecting CWU must also buy upgrade protection on all new products and existing purchases, but they will have their discount increased to the next level," says Latief. "The new CWU option enables customers to receive extra discounts when purchasing full-term (two years) upgrade protection."

Further good news is that the entry level for level 1 of the MLA programme has been reduced from $700 000 to $500 000.

"In the current economic climate, where the rand continues to depreciate, this new licensing model not only makes Novell products more affordable, but also offers several benefits to existing customers," Latief concludes.
