Novell will be flexing its muscle as the world`s leading provider of network software at next month`s Networld & Internet `98 exhibition at Gallagher Estate, Midrand.
The event, which runs from 16-18 September and targets the burgeoning networking and Internet connectivity market, is a TML Reed Exhibitions initiative in association with Business Day, and provides an ideal platform for Novell`s extensive product line-up.
After fifteen years leading the market, Novell will display a range of its leading products and solutions which broadly target small businesses, distributed networks and Internet and Intranet users. In terms of niche markets, its educational and technical support programs are considered the most comprehensive in network computing.
"Solutions on offer will include messaging, security and network management systems, network operating systems and our latest Internet product solutions," says Novell`s Marketing Manager, Trish Barwick. Worldwide, the networking market is currently growing at an unrestrained 24% a year, driven largely by the Internet phenomenon with global Internet services alone estimated to be increasing at a staggering 54% a year.
As Barwick points out. "The Internet is growing faster than all other communications technologies that have preceded it. Radio existed for 38 years before it had 50 million listeners, and television took 13 years to reach that mark."
"The Internet crossed the line in just four years, and by the end of 1997, more than 100 million people were Internet users." With the same people generally responsible for making purchasing decisions in both networking and Internet technology arenas, Novell seems to be riding that wave comfortably well.
The emphasis now is on building and consolidating local and wide area networks and organising network communications through routers, hubs and switches. Internetworking products in fact are now the fastest growth segment within the network equipment market, which is predicted to grow beyond R2,5 billion by the turn of the century.
Two Novell products at Networld & Internet `98 are worthy of particular note: Novell`s latest NDS (Novell Directory Services) system, and its new Zen (Zero Effort Networks) Works system.
"The first - NDS for NT - is software that enables easy administration of mixed Windows NT and intraNetWare networks by simplifying the management of Windows NT domains," says Barwick.
"By allowing users to move Windows NT domain information into an NDS database, the system eliminates the need to establish and maintain complicated relationships.
"ZenWorks is server-based, directory-enabled software that enables users to manage their network`s applications and Windows workstations more efficiently, in less time and at lower cost," she continues.
"It incorporates technologies previously offered as Novell Application Launcher and Novell Workstation Manager, along with remote-control help request and troubleshooting, and all the tools needed to centrally distribute, manage and update applications on Windows-based network workstations."
