Novell investing in Mauritius

Johannesburg, 28 Aug 2000

Novell today announced its first regional seminar in Mauritius. The seminar aims to provide Novell partners and customers with training opportunities and information about how they provide solutions and services to small and medium sized businesses.

"There has never been a better time to get on to the ," says Novell`s regional manager for sub-Saharan Africa, Graham Hallworth. "Novell`s new products are enabling small and medium businesses to take advantage of the power of the Internet. This seminar in Mauritius will allow us to respond to reseller demand for training to help them meet the specific needs of their customers." He continues that, "It is especially important, because many businesses here don`t have full time IT support staff, therefore they rely on resellers for and support."

The seminar will focus on Novell`s newly developed OneNet , in which Novell envisions a world of all types of networks working together as one Net, to provide the power and flexibility that organisations need to succeed in the emerging Net economy - which includes the Internet, Extranet and Intranet.

An overview of Novell`s top networking products, as well as its latest caching solution will also be presented at the seminar. "ICS (Internet Caching System) is the industry`s fastest, most scaleable and cost-effective Internet caching solution for Web-enabled organisations, content publishers and Internet Service Providers," says Hallworth. "Novell ICS-powered appliances help organisations gain customer loyalty and increase employee productivity by significantly decreasing Internet wait times.

The seminar will be hosted by three of Novell`s representatives from the Europe, Middle East and African (EMEA) region. They will present a comprehensive programme covering critical issues currently facing the IT industry. These issues include Pirated Software, replacing outdated technology and Un-met expectations with existing software.

Matt Tomsett, manager for special projects in the EMEA region adds, "In many parts of Africa, the piracy rate is more than 70%. Many companies are using outdated, illegal software. Today`s business environment requires companies of all sizes to have reliable networks and tools that combine their internal network, Extranet and the Internet in a one Net environment. Novell`s Small Business Suite 5.1 enables smaller businesses to have the same opportunities and scope as larger companies. We are here to help customers prepare for the Internet and to get legal."

Designed specifically to meet the needs of businesses with 50 users or less, Novell`s Small Business Suite 5.1 provides everything a business needs to take advantage of on the Internet -remote access, e-mail, faxing and Web capabilities. For the duration of the two month campaign, Novell has secured special prices for its customers in Mauritius. In addition, participating resellers can earn prizes for their contributions to the campaign.

Hallworth concludes that, "Our objective is to establish a network of business partners that can leverage this marketing potential, and then empower them to offer value-added services to their customers."
