Novell has announced the availability of NetWare Enterprise Print Services, an advanced software solution that uses Novell Directory Services (NDS) to give users access to printers from anywhere on the network and administrators total control of print resources distributed across private networks and the Internet.
According to Novell product and SE manager James Stewart, NetWare Enterprise Print Services supports Internet standards and works with printer hardware from the world`s leading vendors, "This enables customers to integrate their business networks and the Internet into a single intelligent network that is secure, easy to manage and easy to use."
In keeping with Novell`s commitment to manage and integrate the widest range of network resources, NetWare Enterprise Print Services ships with gateway software to support printer hardware from Hewlett-Packard, Xerox, Lexmark, Epson, Tektronix and Extended Systems. In addition, customers can print from a variety of clients, including Windows, Unix, Macintosh and all clients supporting Internet Printing Protocol (IPP).
Using Novell Distributed Print Services (NDPS) technology -- developed jointly by Novell, HP and Xerox -- NetWare Enterprise Print Services expands the printing services of Novell`s NetWare 4 and NetWare 5 server platforms and frees users from the boundaries of technology and geography that have traditionally limited the reach and effectiveness of network printing. For example, when using NetWare Enterprise Print Services, installing a new network printer is as easy as plugging it into the network.
Once a printer is connected and powered on, it immediately becomes available for network printing. And when a new printer is added, users no longer have to hunt down the right print driver because NetWare Enterprise Print Services will automatically download it to their desktops. NetWare Enterprise Print Services also allows users to be notified automatically when events or problems occur, such as a completed print job, low toner or a paper jam.
NetWare Enterprise Print Services is designed to help customers leverage the power of the Internet by supporting open Internet standards. The protocol independence of NDPS enables NetWare Enterprise Print Services to run in pure native Internet Protocol (IP) networks, pure IPX/SPX networks or a combination of both.
