Novell SA appoints Masie as country manager

Johannesburg, 27 Oct 2003

Novell SA has appointed a new country manager, Stafford Masie, who will take over the running of the operation from Richard Beytagh, who has been with Novell for the past 10 years.

Masie joins the local organisation after serving at both the company`s corporate headquarters in Utah in the US, and with Novell`s product groups in Austin, Texas. Prior to this he operated as chief spokesman on business technology for Novell SA.

He came to prominence in the company after helping to broker a deal which saw giant Yahoo adopting Novell`s directory technology to its five million-plus subscribers.

Masie has also been prominent in managing the organisation`s relationships with major vendors such as IBM, Hewlett-Packard and Dell, and was involved in the development of the company`s strategy around its Linux services, including its recent acquisition of Ximian.

"Stafford`s appointment is something of a coup for Novell SA, as his years of experience and grasp of Novell`s new focus will prove invaluable to the local office and our customers," says Beytagh.

"He has worked very closely with Novell top management over the past four years and will be able to leverage these relationships to help put Novell SA back on the global map."

Beytagh says another distinct advantage is the fact that he is no stranger to the local office, meaning his appointment is a popular one with both staff and customers.

At his appointment function on Friday night, Masie said he was eager to get stuck into the job and looked forward to continuing the good work begun by his predecessor.

The handover process has been ongoing for some time and Masie is expected to assume full operational duties by mid-November.
