Novell SA, the local arm of the world`s largest provider of networking software, took pride of place recently when they were nominated for five Most Admired IT Companies Awards at a gala function hosted by ComputerWeek and First National Bank at Gallagher Estate in Midrand. The quality of the technology provided by South Africa`s top 1000 IT vendors, researched by Research Surveys, was judged by 200 local corporate users earlier this year. The criteria, identified by corporate SA as most significant when selecting a technology provider were, in order of priority, the reliability of the technology solution, vendor support, compatibility with existing infrastructure, ease of integration with other systems, and return on investment (ROI). Says Richard Beytagh, MD of Novell SA, "These awards signify the greatest compliment that our valued customers could pay Novell SA. "I would sincerely like to thank our esteemed client base for the confidence and loyalty they demonstrated toward Novell. Ultimately, without end user support, none of the players in the vendor market would enjoy any success, regardless of how efficient their technology is". Novell SA, which collected no less than five of the total 23 awards, secured top place in the groupware and messaging, network management, network security, remote access, and server operating systems categories. Novell`s focus has shifted recently to concentrate on NetWare and Novell Directory Services (NDS) as the backbone for building and managing a company`s entire network, hence the Most Admired IT Companies award for network management. Similarly, in the groupware and messaging category, Novell SA is pleased to note that their GroupWare product is evolving from a `nice-to-have` to a mission-critical product. In the network security category, Richard Beytagh, maintains that "organisations connected to the Internet are exceedingly vulnerable to attacks, so there is an obvious need to protect internal resources such as Web services, FTP services, and other critical services, which Novell`s BorderManager has been specifically designed to do". Accordingly, Novell SA also walked away with the remote access award, attributable to the fact that their "BorderManager Authentication Service ensures easy, secure and central control of access to networks". Voted into first place as the most admired company in the Server Operating Systems category, Richard Beytagh notes that Novell, whose evolution spans more than a decade, can subsequently offer end users reliability, lower cost of ownership, and security when it comes to operating systems, which explains why Novell is currently considered the best file and print server available.
