Network Support Services Consulting is offering training bursaries for IT Infrastructure Libraries (ITIL) qualification worth R250 000 to historically disadvantaged individuals across the country.
ITIL is trademarked by the British Office of Government Commerce (OGC) and promotes a vendor-independent approach for service management.
One of the most inhibitive factors involved with IT training is the cost, which can run into the tens of thousands of rands, says NSS director Lynda Odendaal. "Training is so expensive that most companies simply can`t afford to offer it to their staff."
With the R250 000 bursary fund, NSS expects to offer the full course - consisting of two levels taking five days each - to five or six candidates. With this sort of cost in mind, it is essential that only the right candidates are selected. "We`ll will only begin the course once this has been achieved," says Odendaal.
"We don`t want to exclude anyone, but we must be realistic: some people need this training more than others."
Eligible candidates for the "foundation level" must have had decent exposure to IT. For level two, candidates will need higher education type thinking, says Odendaal. "They will need to have some tertiary education, or experience that would be equivalent."
The course will be held at the NSS learning centre in Rivonia. The date will be announced once the full number of eligible candidates are selected. Candidates applying outside Johannesburg will be flown to the city for the course, says Odendaal.
Interested candidates can contact NSS on (011) 519-8600.
