Nutanix, provider of centre infrastructure solutions, has unveiled the Nutanix Virtual Computing Platform in SA.

The platform converges compute and storage into a single system, eliminating the need for traditional storage arrays. It merges enterprise-class storage with x86 servers into one hardware tier to deliver a single, high-performance building block for enterprise virtualisation, said Rob Tribe, regional SE manager for EMEA at Nutanix.

"Each Nutanix node runs an industry standard hypervisor and a Nutanix controller VM, which handles all I/O operations for the local hypervisor. Storage resources are exposed to the hypervisor through traditional interfaces, and are pooled and made available to all VMs. The convergence of compute and storage into a single appliance provides a flexible, scalable building block for the modern data centre."

According to Nutanix, the entry into the market comes hot on the heels of the Nutanix Network, which was built from the ground up to maximise partner productivity and profitability, and enable to easily learn about, promote and sell the Nutanix Virtual Computing Platform.

Distribution agreements are already in place with MICROmega Technologies (MMT), Premier Partners CES SQIM, Global Z Data and VMXperts. All of these partners can now deliver the Nutanix Virtual Computing Platform to customers in need of a data centre infrastructure, noted Nutanix.

The company said the Nutanix Virtual Computing Platform offers a powerful but simple converged compute and storage infrastructure that reduces investment and technology risk for both partners and customers. The company's converged solution supports deployments of any virtual workload, including server virtualisation, large-scale virtual desktop initiatives, development/test applications, private clouds, big data (Hadoop, Splunk, Hortonworks) projects and disaster recovery.

"Nutanix is excited to be launching in South Africa and expanding the distribution of its next-generation platform that is literally reinventing the data centre," said Alan Campbell, regional director, UK, Ireland and SA, at Nutanix. "Since shipping our first Virtual Computing Platform in late 2011, we have achieved an annualised sales run rate exceeding $80 million. Nutanix is pleased to be partnering with MICROmega Technologies and Premier Partners CES SQIM, Global Z Data and VMXperts to help fuel this growth across sub-Saharan Africa."

"Nutanix opens up a whole new market for MMT," said Greg Morris, CEO of MICROmega. "Nutanix enables MMT to provide a complete solution offering to its existing channel and to engage new partners. Nutanix has shown growth from the start and presents an opportunity for MMT to bring the solution into this region."

"Nutanix uses the same design principles and technologies that power IT innovators like Google, Facebook and Amazon," said John Bainbridge, GM of MMT. "Nutanix tailors these platforms for mainstream enterprises and government agencies. Nutanix will benefit from MMT's vast domestic knowledge and strong relationships across southern Africa."
