Graham van Zijl, Managing Director of nVision IT has been appointed to the Microsoft Regional Director programme - one of only 130 such appointments worldwide.
The appointment is a non-remunerative position entailing his participation in a global initiative that seeks to bring independent perspectives on Microsoft technology initiatives and the business value they bring to the market.
Van Zijl joins a select group of thought leaders from different international technology, business and academic communities that have access to Microsoft resources at a high level to provide them with the necessary insight and knowledge of Microsoft products and future directions.
"This is not a reward system for favourite customers or successful partners," says Danny Naidoo, Director of .NET and Developer Group at Microsoft SA. "Potential Regional Directors are nominated on the basis of technical know-how, business acumen and willingness to participate. They are then selected and appointed based on their suitability to engage meaningfully in our market space.
"By working closely with partners on the value proposition of Microsoft technologies, their independent expertise and knowledge of customer needs allow them to present key business solutions to the market," concludes Naidoo.
Since establishing nVisionIT, Van Zijl and his team have earned global recognition as one of the foremost sources of solution innovation and integration on the Microsoft platform.
Although in the past Microsoft has focused on appointing Regional Directors worldwide from a technical background, this year has seen the focus switch to directors from more of a business background to more effectively convey the business benefits that the latest Microsoft technologies offer organisations.
"Microsoft is focusing on business decision-makers as IT solutions these days are evaluated on the returns they can generate for an organisation. Technology enables certain business advantages and benefits, but IT today is a business sell not a technology sell," says Van Zijl.
Part of the Regional Director programme entails attending international Microsoft conferences. Van Zijl plans to attend the Microsoft Regional Director Summit in Instanbul in March and Tech-Ed Europe in Barcelona in June.
"From Microsoft`s perspective, we will ensure that our Regional Directors have access to the resources that our managers do and are equipped with all the information they need to present the value of Microsoft technologies from an independent perspective," concludes Naidoo.
