Nyanda rejects diplomat post

Axed communications minister Siphiwe Nyanda has reportedly turned down an offer for a diplomatic posting as the South African ambassador to Germany.

According to Eyewitness News, the former minister was offered the job to replace ambassador Sonwabo Eddie Funde, who is recovering after a serious accident that took place earlier this year.

Nyanda was a victim of President Jacob Zuma's recent cabinet reshuffle, in which seven ministers were sacked for poor performance.

Prior to his dismissal, Nyanda had been shrouded in controversy for his extravagant purchases and the highly-publicised axing of his director-general, Mamodupi Mohlala.

The former minister has also come under investigation for several allegations of tender irregularities.

It is understood that Nyanda turned down the top diplomatic position in favour of bigger political and business plans in the country.

Government officials were not immediately available for comment at the time of publication.
