NZ courts get high tech link
Christchurch courts are next in line for a hi-tech audio-visual link that allows defendants to appear in court without leaving prison, writes Stuff.
The AV Link system was used in the Auckland District Court with several prisoners at the Auckland Central Remand Prison having their court appearances on the video connection.
Christchurch District Court criminal section manager Phil Miles said a staff member had been seconded to the Auckland team to learn the technology and help its installation in the South Island.

Web boosts medical education

It will benefit specialists conducting rare or complex operations as well as under-resourced doctors in remote locations.
Surgeon and Internet entrepreneur Andrew Renaut says his 'videosurgery' live and on-demand Webcasts, accessible to medical professionals only via a secure site, are just the start.
