NZ minister backs local centres

New Zealand prime minister John Key says companies choosing to send their call centres to other parts of the world "are making the wrong choice", reports Stuff.co.nz.

He wants other New Zealand companies to take note of Canon's new call centre on the Shore.

Key told the North Shore Times it is a positive move to open call centres in New Zealand because it creates employment for people of different age groups and ethnicities.

Call centre closure costs jobs

A call centre in Nottingham looks set to close with the loss of 300 jobs, says the BBC.

Earlier in the year Royal of Scotland announced a package of more 2 600 job cuts in a bid to become more efficient.

The firm has now said it is consulting on closing its call centre on Kent Street after a deal to administer Tesco's insurance business ended.

24-hour centre for Kenya Airways

National carrier Kenya Airways has officially implemented a new 24-hour contact centre, reveals Capital Business.

KQ area manager for Kenya, Nita Nagi, said the new facility at the Embakasi Headquarters seeks to offer efficient services to customers outside Kenya who were previously not served by their old call centre that opened for 12 hours only.

“It's a big progress from where we were... we felt that we were not giving the rest of our customers outside of Kenya the right level of because of different time zones,” she explained.
