OAS brings Australian accounting software to South Africa

Systems integrator Open Architecture Systems has been granted the South African licence to OEM Australian-based Stamina Software`s financial accounting software.

Philip Lavers, Open Architecture Systems director, has called the system Darwin, and describes it as "the SAP solution for the Pick environment". It will be showcased at both the Business Software World 2000 exhibition in August and at Comdex in October.

Darwin is a functionally rich and mature product featuring seamless integration between 35 modules and is available on all major hardware and software platforms.

"Its robust and complex nature means it is ideal for 64+ users in a Pick environment, running on either NT, SCO Unix, or IBM RISC platforms," he adds.

The power of the product, which is aimed at corporates with multiple branches, lies in its ability to run over low-speed telephone or diginet lines into a centralised database. This is even demonstrated via the companies` Web server.

"It is possible to have 10 or more simultaneous users connected via a single 64k Diginet link," says Lavers, "and, coupled with our thin client technology solutions, we can offer a comprehensive financial system with a low cost of ownership and maintenance.

"With the decentralised database module, we are able to offer a complete system, running on multiple servers with centralised management information that is always up to date with the latest sales details," Lavers says.

"We have chosen D3 from Pick Systems running on Microsoft NT as our preferred database, as Pick Systems uses an Open File System Interface (OFSI), allowing easy client/server deployment and configuration as well as support for foreign databases like Oracle or AIX platforms," he concludes.
