Obsidian Systems, SA`s largest Linux company, will give away a full Red Hat Linux training course to one lucky visitor at the Software Freedom Day installfest in Gauteng on 28 August. The installfest is being organised by the Gauteng Linux User Group (GLUG) and includes a product expo, demos of the latest software, and talks by top industry leaders.
The training course that is on offer is the Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), consists of four modules covering Linux essentials, system administration, networking and security, and the certification exam. The entire course carries a value of just over R30 000 and has long been regarded by corporates as the most sought-after Linux qualification.
"Software Freedom Day is an important day for the Linux and open source community and we wanted to show our support," says Nols de Wet, marketing director at Obsidian Systems. "There are many ways to promote Linux and open source, and helping to develop local skills is one of the best ways for us to give back to and grow the local community."
The competition will be held at the installfest at The Campus in Bryanston on 28 August and will be open to all visitors to the event. The winner will be able to attend the course at the Obsidian training centre in Johannesburg.
Ross Addis, chairman of GLUG, comments: "It is always good when a corporate Linux company recognises both the commercial and the community aspects of Linux. Obsidian has always recognised the value of the community and their involvement in the installfest will go a long way towards making the day a huge success."
