OCBC intros Android app

OCBC says it has introduced a mobile banking application, allowing its customers using Android phones to scan barcodes, obtain billing details, and make payments from their bank accounts, according to Today Online.

The bank says its customers have started downloading the application, OCBC Android Mobile Banking, from the Android Market since 26 March.

Channel News Asia adds that OCBC is also working on offering the functionality on other mobile devices, such as iPhones, which run on different operating systems.

Customers can use the camera function on their mobile devices to read barcodes, instead of manually keying in the invoice number.

The banking application's one special feature, a barcode scanner, allows customers to scan a bill due for payment, and the application will automatically figure out the bill number - a common complaint by consumers befuddled by the multiple bills, account and other series of digits on bills issued, notes Straits Times.
