In March 2009, the South African printing industry will witness the launch of an exciting new printing technology that will change the face of wide-format printing. Oc'e South Africa will introduce a printing system that combines the best of toner and inkjet printing in one clean and sustainable system, the Oc'e ColorWave 600.
Oc'e South Africa's Jaco Smit explains: “Oc'e CrystalPoint technology converts colour Oc'e TonerPearls toner into a gel. This tonergel is then jetted and crystallised onto any type of paper, producing crisp, water-fast high quality images with extremely accurate dot placement.”
With the Oc'e ColorWave 600, customers can print both colour and black and white on lower cost, untreated and recycled paper. The Oc'e ColorWave 600 also prints an E-size sheet (1sqm) in half a minute, which enables wide-format customers to print at least twice as fast as conventional inkjet systems used by competitors. Prints dry instantly so they can be handled immediately. Furthermore, there is no longer a significant difference between colour and black and white output with regard to productivity and print quality. A print speed of 31 seconds per A0, six media roll capacity and 42-inch print width ensures the tightest deadlines are met.
Although targeted primarily at the architectural, engineering and construction market, Oc'e CrystalPoint technology will also attract interest in the reprographics and business graphics markets.
Oc'e CrystalPoint technology offers significant environmental benefits. The solid Oc'e TonerPearls used in tonergel jetting release no ozone, odour or fine powder. This makes Oc'e CrystalPoint technology ultra-low when it comes to emissions. Furthermore, because it prints an even, semi-gloss finish on uncoated paper, the technology reduces the use of paper coatings that impact the environment.
The Oc'e ColourWave has won multiple awards in the short time since its international launch in 2008, including an iF Product Design Award from the International Forum Design Institute in Germany, a Good Design Award in Japan, an Editor's Choice Award in the United Kingdom and a Must See 'em Award at Graph Expo in the United States.
