Oc'e shows its colours on VarioStream 9000

Johannesburg, 16 May 2006

Every year since the Oc'e VarioStream 9000 family was launched, Oc'e has unveiled an array of new functions for the series at its OpenHouse. This year Oc'e outdid itself by announcing three innovations:

* The brand-new Oc'e VarioStream 9230, one of the fastest digital continuous feed systems for 3/3 recto and verso printing.
* Groundbreaking new technology, GraphicArts+ (Dot Modulation), for even greater precision in fine detail prints.
* Oc'e CustomTone is now available for the VarioStream 9000 systems, enabling cost-efficient colour printing outside the standard CMYK range.

Launched in 2004, the Oc'e VarioStream 9000 series is now available in its first-ever 3/3 configuration. Unlike other toner-based machines, this printing system offers a genuine alternative to process colour for many print applications, with all the associated productivity and cost benefits.

With colour, users can highlight key items of information on printouts. An Oc'e CustomTone printer also obviates the need for pre-printed logo letterhead, which used to have to be produced separately by offset.

GraphicArts+ (Dot Modulation) is the new Oc'e formula for even more print quality. This new technology makes it possible to vary the luminance of each and every light-emitting diode in the printer - all 11 000 of them! With the new technology, images can be printed without compromising on the number of grey scales that can be rendered. Users benefit from a broader portfolio of applications and can print any material where image detail and clarity are paramount, such as special-interest publications.

Oc'e CustomTone adds high impact colour

Now running Oc'e CustomTone, the Oc'e VarioStream 9000 family can offer a huge choice of colours that go far beyond the standard CMYK gamut. Spot and deco colours, even CI-matched tones, can be integrated quite simply into the printing process, thus speeding up the print process and reducing costs. The use of additional colour is proven to add impact to communication. It increases direct-mail response rates, for instance, and speeds payment - and it makes printing more flexible.

Oc'e South Africa`s Digital Document Solutions manager, Willie Viljoen, says: "The VarioStream 9000 series gives Oc'e customers a versatile line-up of roll-fed printing systems that measure up to the toughest standards. Enterprises can begin by investing in a basic solution and expand it step-by-step. The printers connect to a range of pre- and post-processing equipment and support the international UP3I interface standard for installation in highly automated production lines. Owing to the variety of applications they can run, the Oc'e VarioStream 9000 models are equally suitable for commercial print service providers and corporate printing at banks, insurance companies and in public administration."
