An Oc'e 3165 black-and-white printing system has achieved an impressive 800 000 impressions per month for the past five years, with minimal downtime. Installed at The Platinum Press, in Potchefstroom, in March 2004, the Oc'e 3165 is primarily used to print study guides for training and educational organisations.
The Platinum Press' Marie Kock comments: “The 3165 is very operator friendly and extremely reliable. When needed, it can run 24 hours non-stop; in fact, we once ran the machine for 56 hours without a break.”
There are months where The Platinum Press experiences very high print volumes, particularly when study guide reruns need to be printed in a short space of time, and this is when the Oc'e 3165 comes to the fore.
Kock adds: “The maximum volume that we have printed on the 3165 in the space of one month was close to 1.3 million clicks, although on average it does in the region of 800 000 prints per month.”
Founded in 2002, The Platinum Press was established to meet a need for a high volume printing facility in the region. This work was initially carried out by the Kock family's other printing business, Ons Drukkers, situated in Vanderbijlpark.
Kock says: “We do all aspects of the printing business, from small runs to high litho printing volumes as well as full colour banners and advertising.”
The Platinum Press is a confirmed Oc'e customer, having acquired nine Oc'e printing systems over the past seven years, comprising an Oc'e 3100, five Oc'e 3165s and three Oc'e VarioPrint 2110, the latter enabling The Platinum Press to offer its customers high volume, variable data and print on-demand printing.
