Contact centre solutions provider, Ocular Technologies, has announced it has reclaimed a broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE) rating of Level 1. This is according to independent rating company Empowerdex, which provided an impartial verification of the BBBEE initiatives undertaken by Ocular. In addition, the company had maintained a procurement recognition level of 135%.
Ocular is a 100% black-owned specialist contact centre solutions and services provider, which has been in operation since 2003. With a decade of proven service in the South African market, the company has made its mark at the forefront of the industry as a preferred partner for large-scale corporates, SMEs and government affiliates alike. Ocular prides itself on its people, its quality and its use of technological advancements to deliver outstanding service.
For Ocular, BBBEE is about more than just boasting rights; it is about empowerment and reversing inequalities of the past, says Ebrahim Dinat, chief operating officer at Ocular Technologies.
"In its efforts to reclaim the Level 1 rating, Ocular focused tirelessly on the seven pillars of the generic scorecard - ownership, management and control, employment equity, skills development, preferential procurement, enterprise development and socio-economic development.
"However, we will not let the legalities of BBBEE overshadow its core benefits, namely, transformation and empowerment - of the individual, the company and the country as a whole."
At the same time, says Dinat, Ocular realises the enormous benefits a Level 1 rating provides the company and its clients.
"Ocular Technologies is 100% black-owned and complies with the South African BBBEE guidelines," he says. "As a Level 1 contributor with a procurement recognition level of 135%, the company is well positioned to offer its customers better procurement options, through the correct channels - all of which plays a role in underscoring the company's commitment to transformation and continuous improvement within the empowerment sphere."
