OLAP pioneer Thomsen joins Hyperion

Johannesburg, 02 Jul 2003

Erik Thomsen, an online analytical processing (OLAP) pioneer, noted industry expert and distinguished scientist, has joined Hyperion to help extend the company`s lead in the emerging market for business performance management (BPM) solutions with his technical vision and capabilities.

"I wanted to go to a company where I could work with a world-class team to help create software products to address real-world business problems that undermine companies` financial and operational performance," says Thomsen. "Hyperion is the perfect size to make a difference. It has the right focus and balance between its core technology platform and its packaged, domain-specific applications."

Thomsen has 20 years` academic, consulting and business experience in decision support, business intelligence and OLAP technology. Most recently, he was chief scientist for DSS Lab, an independent developer of decision support and business intelligence applications, systems and tools.

Among his accomplishments, Thomsen wrote "OLAP Solutions: Building Multidimensional Information Systems", the first comprehensive textbook on OLAP published by John Wiley & Sons, now in its second edition.

"Erik brings a unique combination of practical and business experience and progressive theoretical knowledge, and Hyperion is extremely fortunate to have him on board," says Marc Scheepbouwer, CEO of local distributor GBI (Global Technology Business Intelligence).

"He is a brilliant and prolific inventor, author, patent-holder and businessman with an ideal background to help Hyperion drive performance accountability across organisations."
