Old Mutual signs Futrix

Johannesburg, 16 Jan 2001

Old Mutual, the country`s oldest and largest financial institution, has signed a 50-user license agreement for Futrix, a SAS-based analysis system from InfoActive, the South African-based world-wide distributor.

Dr Nigel Wigram, Marketing Manager for Client Relations at Old Mutual explains why they chose Futrix. "With a database of approximately 9 million people, of which some 3.5 million clients are current contract owners the necessity for accurate mining in order to achieve quality information is essential for our repeat purchaser project. Futrix offers a huge leap forward in our ability to get managers to manipulate and understand data."

Previously, Old Mutual`s administration departments were managed in such a way as to complete 500 cash transactions in a day. The resulted in call centres limiting time on customer calls. Now, maximum use of time on calls can be made to get the very best of information for use by sales people through data mining and scoring models.

Manager for Client relations Lynette Stassen: "South Africa has changed much in recent times, from a closed to a very open market where it is far more competitive. To a large extent we were in a protected environment, because there was very little choice for consumers. We realised that to be competing in an open market we had to be much more focussed on our activities. We had to use the fact that we have detailed information about so many people, and turn that information into competitive advantage."

Director of Info Active, John Day is excited about the possibilities that Futrix offers SAS users. "The tool is comprehensive with plenty of features and facilities, allowing users to optimise the performance of underlying data structures. As a plug-in tool, information can be accessed within days or even hours of installation. The marketing advantages that we can therefore offer clients like Old Mutual are therefore enormous."
